Pakistani passport
How to apply for a new Pakistani passport, renew an expiring one, or replace a lost or damaged passport, in Pakistan or abroad.
Last reviewed 11 October 2026
Pakistani passports are machine readable passports (MRP) issued by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P). Adults can choose a passport valid for 5 or 10 years. Children under 15 can only get a 5 year passport.
Before you apply
You need a valid National Identity Card:
- CNIC if you live in Pakistan
- NICOP if you live abroad
- CRC (B-Form) for children
Make sure the details on your identity card are correct, as your passport is issued using your NADRA record.
Apply in Pakistan
For a first passport, or if your details need changing, apply in person at a Regional Passport Office. Your photograph and fingerprints are taken at the office and you pay the fee there.
Bring your original identity card and any supporting documents for your case, for example your old passport if you have one.
Renew online
You can renew your passport online if it has expired or has less than 1 year of validity left. Inland applicants can only use the online system for renewals.
- Apply on the DGI&P online passport portal.
- Upload your photograph and verify your fingerprints, for example through the NADRA Pak ID app.
- Pay the fee by credit or debit card.
Your application is checked by DGI&P before the new passport is issued. The portal shows how to track it.

Apply from abroad
Overseas Pakistanis can use the online portal for more types of application, including renewals, passports for newborn children, and replacements for lost or damaged passports. You can also apply at a Pakistani embassy or consulate.
Lost or damaged passport
If your passport is lost or stolen, report it to the police and keep a copy of the report.
In Pakistan, apply for a replacement at a Regional Passport Office. Abroad, check with your nearest Pakistani embassy or consulate whether you can apply online or need to apply in person.
Fees
Fees depend on the number of pages, the validity (5 or 10 years) and how quickly you need the passport (normal or urgent). DGI&P changes fees from time to time, so check the current fee before you apply.
