College admissions
How to apply for intermediate (FA, FSc, ICS, ICom) at a government college after Matric, including the online admission systems in each province.
Last reviewed 12 October 2026
After Matric (class 10), students study for 2 years at intermediate level, in class 11 and 12. Common programmes are FA (arts), FSc (pre-medical or pre-engineering), ICS (computer science) and ICom (commerce).
How college admission works
Places in government colleges are given on merit, based on Matric or class 9 marks. Most provinces have an online system where you apply once and choose several colleges. Merit lists are published online and at colleges.
Private colleges admit students directly. Contact the college for its admission rules and fees.
Documents you need
Colleges usually ask for:
- your Matric or class 9 result card or marks sheet
- your Child Registration Certificate (B-Form) or identity card
- recent photographs
- a School Leaving Certificate or character certificate
- a domicile certificate, for some colleges
