Visit Pakistan on a visa

How foreign nationals can apply for a Pakistan visa online, which type to choose, and what to know about police registration and staying longer.

Last reviewed 11 October 2026

Most foreign nationals need a visa to visit Pakistan. Applications are made online through the Pakistan Online Visa System run by NADRA for the Ministry of Interior.

Do you need a visa

You do not need a visa if you hold a valid NICOP or Pakistan Origin Card (POC).

Everyone else needs a visa before they travel.

Visa on arrival and visa prior to arrival were suspended in March 2026. Apply online and get your visa approved before you travel, even if your nationality was on the older visa on arrival list.

Types of visa

The online system has around a dozen categories, including:

  • tourist visa
  • family visit
  • business visa
  • work visa
  • study visa
  • religious tourism
  • medical visa

Choose the category that matches the main purpose of your trip. Some categories, such as business and work visas, need supporting letters from an organisation in Pakistan.

Apply online

  1. Create an account on the Pakistan Online Visa System.
  2. Choose your visa category and fill in the form.
  3. Upload your photograph, passport and supporting documents.
  4. Pay the fee online.

You will receive your visa by email. Print it or keep a copy to show at immigration. Fees depend on your nationality and the type of visa.

Police registration

Most visitors do not need to register with the police. Nationals of a small number of countries, and anyone whose visa is stamped "report to police", must register. If you stay in a hotel, the hotel usually handles this for you.

Extending your visa

Do not stay longer than your visa allows. Overstaying can lead to fines and problems with future visas.

If you need to stay longer, apply for an extension before your visa expires. Extensions are handled by the Ministry of Interior.
