Elections in Pakistan are run by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). You need to be on the electoral roll to vote in general and local elections.
Who can vote
You can register to vote if you:
- are a citizen of Pakistan
- are 18 or older
- have a valid National Identity Card (CNIC)
- have not been declared of unsound mind by a court
Check if you are registered
Most people are added to the electoral roll automatically when they get their CNIC, using the address on their card.
To check, send your CNIC number without dashes by SMS to 8300. The reply shows your electoral area, block code, serial number and constituency. If the reply says there is no record, you need to register.
You can also check at your District Election Commissioner's office, where the final electoral roll is available.
Register or move your vote
Your vote is registered at the permanent or current address on your CNIC. If you move, update your CNIC address with NADRA and move your vote.
To register for the first time, or to move your vote to another address, fill in Form 21 and submit it to your District Election Commissioner's office or a registration officer. Register before the electoral rolls are closed for an election.

Correct your details
To correct a mistake in your entry on the electoral roll, use Form 23. To object to an entry or ask for one to be removed, use Form 22. Submit forms to the registration officer at your district election office.
