Federal ministries

The federal ministries of Pakistan and the divisions that make them up.

Last reviewed 11 October 2026

The work of the federal government is divided between ministries. Each ministry is made up of one or more divisions, and each division is run by a Federal Secretary, a senior civil servant.

Ministries are led by federal ministers, who are members of the Cabinet. Some ministries are led by a Minister of State or by the Prime Minister directly.

Some divisions sit directly under the Cabinet Secretariat rather than a ministry, for example the Cabinet Division and the Establishment Division, which runs the Civil Service.
