President of Pakistan
The President is head of state, civilian Commander-in-Chief of the Pakistan Armed Forces.
The President is elected indirectly by the Parliament of Pakistan for a term of 5 years and act as ceremonial figurehead. The President:
- has no direct authority in running the government
- directly grants pardons, reprieves
- appoints higher commands in military (with support from the Prime Minister)
- confirms judicial appointments in national court system
Arif Alvi ¶
Arif Alvi became 13th President of Pakistan on 9 September 2018. Previously he has served as member of the National Assembly and is one of the founders of Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf (PTI).
